Herencia Missions Ministry: A Legacy of Love and Action

Founded in 2010 in the streets of San Pedro Sula, Herencia Missions Ministries (HMM) is a humanitarian social init

iative with a profound mission: to attend to emergencies and critical needs in life-and-death situations. Through the love of Christ, we provide food, clothing, and care to the most disadvantaged in hospitals, jails, and remote communities across Honduras. Their support extends to families with food, medical assistance, and legal and psychological counseling.

What makes Herencia truly unique is their commitment to serving people and areas where others have yet to help. We don’t just speak the Gospel; we live it through our actions. As a Christian-based initiative, they are rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ—loving our neighbors as ourselves and serving them with the same compassion He demonstrated.

Built on Two Core Foundations

  1. Love We believe that in a world where wickedness increases and love grows cold, the Church must remain steadfast, shining its light through actions. Our mission echoes Matthew 5:16: "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." It is through love and good works that we make an impact.

  2. Action We understand that faith without action is incomplete. As James 2:17 reminds us, "Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." Inspired by the living, creative energy of God (Hebrew: רָחַף rakjaf), we are always in motion, ensuring our faith is shown through tangible, impactful work.

A Personal Legacy: Esther Vanessa Lopez

Esther Vanessa Lopez, founder and director of Herencia Missions, was born in San Pedro Sula and raised in a family dedicated to serving others. Her father, Dr. Carlos Lopez, was a trailblazer in HIV research in Honduras, dedicating his life to establishing free medical care clinics across the country.

Inspired by her father’s legacy, Esther founded Herencia Missions with the goal of addressing the urgent needs of the homeless, sick, and imprisoned. Despite challenges, including the economic collapse during the COVID-19 pandemic and devastating hurricanes, Herencia Missions has thrived, thanks to the dedication of volunteers and international support. With the help of partners, including volunteers from the Netherlands, Herencia was able to serve over 4,000 meals and assist 700 families with food, water, and medical care.

Mama en Secreto: Supporting Women in Crisis

In a country where violence against women is rampant, Mama en Secreto is a critical initiative providing support to single mothers and their children in one of the world’s most dangerous areas—Rivera Hernandez. This program offers not just physical and emotional support, but also vocational training in skills like sewing, baking, and beauty care. By equipping these women with skills, we empower them to break free from the cycles of poverty and violence.

Honduras has seen a significant regression in education and socio-economic conditions, exacerbating poverty to unprecedented levels. In this challenging environment, Mama en Secreto stands as a beacon of hope, helping women create better futures for themselves and their children.

A Mission for Lasting Change

Herencia Missions' vision is not just to provide immediate relief but to create lasting transformation. Through love, support, and spiritual healing, we are dedicated to breaking the cycles of poverty and violence, helping families find safety, stability, and hope for a better tomorrow.

Every day presents new challenges, but with faith and community support, we continue to make a difference. Join us in this mission of love and action.
